frequently asked questions

why do you offer so many different types of photography?

The simple answer is this: I love variety. Some sessions are more simple, others ask more from my creativity. The way I set up my business allows me to document so many different types of stories that my work never gets repetitive.

Working with me is a collaboration. I will invest quite some time in getting to know you and creating a real connection, so I can design a unique experience for you. In return, I ask you to be open with me and trust the process. During our time together, I offer you a safe space where you can truly be yourself. It should feel like meeting with an old friend.

But don’t just take my word for it. Read what my clients say about their time with me here.

Trust me, you’ll be fine. A lot of people feel really uncomfortable in front of the camera and need some time before they like looking at photos of themselves – myself included. It’s my job to make you feel less awkward and find ways to make you look (and feel) as beautiful as possible. That’s one of the reasons why I spent so much time getting to know you before I pick up my camera.

That’s not a problem at all. The important thing is that you know you want to work with me. What that collaboration looks like and which type of session or wedding service goes with it, is something we can figure out along the way. The only thing I do ask is that you have a timeframe in mind of when you want your session or wedding to happen.

Yes, I’d love to. As someone who planned a wedding that was precisely what we wanted despite it not being the norm, I know a thing or two about creating an intentional celebration. Moreover, I have such a random combination of skills and knowledge that all come together in planning a wedding – from finding beautiful locations, to design, fashion, seasonal food and flowers, and sustainable wedding vendors. So if you want to plan something uniquely yours, choose the yarrow or heather option and we’ll create something beautiful together.

Please know that this is not a done-for-you service. I’ll help you design your wedding and give recommendations, but you’ll have to speak to other vendors and decide on the ones you want to work with.

I’m based in a tiny village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This is a bit of an overlooked part of Scotland since we don’t have the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe and Skye, but it’s a lovely area to live in. We are both near the Cairngorms and the sea, and have an abundance of castles.

However, I do love to travel. So far, I’ve been to thirty countries, but there’s still so much more of the world I’d love to see. I create my best work while I’m exploring new places, so I’m more than happy to travel to where you are, or give recommendations for places that go with your creative vision.

Travel fees are based on a couple of different things: the type of transportation, the need for accommodation, and how long I’ll stay in the area. When you first enquire, I’ll look up how much it would be to travel to your location and add those costs to your custom quote.

For all sessions within an one-hour drive from where I live and all weddings in Scotland, travel fees are included. I offer a reduced travel rate when we meet somewhere I’m already going (check my schedule here).

I book all my own flights, train tickets, rental cars and accommodations.

Yes, I do offer payment plans. With your invoice, you’ll receive a schedule for three instalments. A 40% retainer is due immediately, so you can secure your date in my calendar, and we can start our work together. The remainder of your invoice needs to be paid in full one month before your session or wedding.

I allow one reschedule free of charge, but do keep in mind that the further away from Aberdeenshire you are, the more difficult it will be to find a new date on short notice. So don’t wait too long to notify me. If I had to book plane or train tickets and/or accommodation, you may need to pay additional travel fees to reschedule your session.

My full cancellation policy is outlined in your contract.

The upside of having a chronic illness for nearly a decade is that I learned how to function like a normal person through almost anything. I’ve worked weddings and sessions through migraines and low energy days. I’ve built this entire business in a period that I spent most of my days in bed, without most of my clients being aware of it. So I think it’s fairly safe to say it’s unlikely that I’ll cancel. I might just have to look extra cool with my sunglasses on.

In the unfortunate event that I do have to cancel or reschedule, I’ll give you plenty of notice and we’ll decide together what’s the best way to move foreward.

Your edited photos are the final product of the service I offer, so no, I won’t send you the RAW files. So much of the final look happens in the editing process, so it wouldn’t make sense for you to receive the unfinished files. I include as many photos as possible in your final gallery, so I promise you, you won’t miss out. If I did miss something, you can always ask. I keep all the RAW files until you approved your gallery.

I don’t use photoshop to change how you look. My approach to photography is more documentary or photojournalistic, as I want to capture you just how you are, and your story how it actually happened. That is the most interesting part of my work.

I can definitely touch up any temporary blemishes. And please let me know if there’s something about your body you’re selfconscious about so I’m aware of this while photographing you.

As long as the weather is not unsafe, I love to embrace the weather we’re given. The light is such an important part of how your photos will look, and a little bit of “bad” weather can create the most beautiful photos. But just to be sure, we’ll come up with an alternative for bad weather.

That said, if the forecast is truly unsafe, we can look into rescheduling.

your personal information

Your privacy is truly important to me, so I will share as little of your personal information online as possible. With your permission, I might use your first name (and business name if applicable) in a gallery post, but that’s about it. The exact location, date, your surname, and the collection you booked is between you and me.

your photos

As a photographer, showing my past work is how I find new clients – you’re here because the style of my work speaks to you. So, I would be grateful if I could show some of the work we’ll create together on my website or social media.

That being said, we can always have a conversation about it – and if the conclusion of that conversation is that I won’t share any of your photos, that is perfectly fine with me.

You find my full privacy policy here.

When you’re ready to book, fill out the contact form and we’ll get everything set up. I want to know everything about you and what your planning, so don’t hold back. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible – usually within a day or two, but sometimes it might take a little longer. If you haven’t heard from me after 72 hours, please send me an email to check if I did receive your enquiry.

We’ll schedule a short video call (about half an hour) to see if we’d enjoy working together, and afterwards I’ll send over a contract. When I’ve received the 40% retainer we can start our work.
