inclusivity statement

At Quiet Mornings Ltd, we believe everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, skin colour, body type or disability.

As your photographer, I do everything I can to make you feel safe while working together. Being photographed can be a vulnerable experience, so it’s important to me that you know you’re in an environment where you’re not judged for who you are.

In addition to this, we adopt some practices to make photography a more inclusive experience:

  • We work slowly. Photo sessions start at two hours so there is time to settle in and for plenty of breaks. We can’t know in advance how you feel on the day of your session and by scheduling this much time, we can create something beautiful no matter what’s going on.
  • I don’t use flash photography. This is both a stylistic choice and a necessity to accommodate my disability. I don’t tolerate flashing lights, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Just in case I need extra light, I have a small continuous lamp in my camera bag.
  • You decide how much of your story you want to disclose. While working together — especially when we work on a portrait series — I will get to know you on a very personal level. Know that your story is safe with me and I will never share any of it without your permission.

A note on my portfolio

At first glance, my portfolio might not seem all that inclusive. And I’m the first one to admit that some of the more obvious choices for inclusivity are missing. My portfolio is especially inclusive when it comes to unseen disabilities — and I don’t believe in disclosing anyone’s disability (or sexuality or religion for that matter) for the sake of proving that I’m an inclusive photographer. So I hope that you trust that I meant everything you’ve read. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
