a farm wedding in amstelveen

This wedding is a perfect example of how your wedding can be anything you want it to be. In the Netherlands, it’s become quite customary to start the day with a select party and add more guests as the celebrations unfold. Out of the nearly hundred weddings I attended as a guest and/or photographer, I don’t think there was one that didn’t follow this schedule – including my own wedding. Except for this one.

This wedding day started with a brunch and civil ceremony with the couple’s closest friends and family, followed by a church ceremony and reception with a light supper for everyone they wanted there, and ended with a relaxed evening for a smaller group. Food and music were provided for by friends. The formal wedding outfits were exchanged for comfortable clothes. And right before sunset – while the dishes were being done – I stole the bride and groom away for five minutes to take some photos in the field behind the farm.
